Welcome to Brooklands Care Home
Caring for 43 residents living with dementia who require residential care, Brooklands Care Home is a purpose built two storey care home in the suburb of Old Swan, just a short bus ride from the city centre of Liverpool.
Our aim is to ensure all our residents feel as comfortable and as settled as possible. The home is as 'homely' in decor and style with high quality furnishings and practical and easily accessible facilities.
Lounges and dining rooms are located on each floor and are decorated to ensure our home has a sense of being a 'home away from home' for our 'family' of residents. Other seating areas are dotted around the home and, in addition, there is a hairdressing salon is on the ground floor. Lastly, the large lawns and gardens are both safe and secure for residents and their visitors to enjoy when we get a spot of sunshine!
We very much encourage our residents to personalise their own bedrooms with their own special items, to ensure that it feel 'just like home'. This helps our new residents to settle in.
The respite care we provide is ideal for those looking for extra care and support in a relaxing environment - whether its following a recent illness, or the usual care is not available. Should you be looking for respite care, do not hesitate to contact the home to check availability and for further details.
Friends and family are welcome to visit at any time. We also have a specially constructed 'visitor pod' to facilitate safe family visiting, whatever the current guidelines may be.
It is worth noting that the home has a private car park for visitors.
The health, well-being and happiness of our ‘family’ of residents, is always our number one priority.
All of our residents have their own care plan, tailored specifically for them. This allows us to build care around their preferences, lifestyles and routines. Everything we do is driven by this genuinely caring person centred approach, working together with friends and family to ensure the care experience is as expected and most importantly, helping residents stay healthy and safe.
Person centred care begins when a resident comes to us and we speak to them about their memories, background and their families. Most importantly, all residents are treated as individuals.
We also understand that care requirements will change and we are mindful to ensure those changing needs are identified.
Brooklands takes a 'whole home' approach to resident activities. This home is totally focussed on resident happiness and wellbeing. The dedicated activities coordinator ensures individual interests and hobbies are always facilitated. With organised regular activity events and themed days providing opportunities for fun and laughter and the staff and residents to come together. Resident daily activities always incorporate seasonal celebrations and special events such as birthdays and our chef always bakes a cake!
Our residents enjoy reminiscence therapy, as well as fun activities. Reminiscence therapy is often based around personal photos. Whether it be photos of old Liverpool or well-known film stars, we have various items in the home which we have available to use. Everyone is welcome to bring along those personal items which they can use to reminisce.
All Dovehaven care homes use 'Oomph! On Demand' to support resident exercise, hobbies, themed days and personal interests.
Home Manager, David Wright, is very proud to lead a team in which every team member is totally committed to their residents, no matter their job role.
All of our team at Brooklands are trained in dementia awareness and person-centred care. This strong team with a shared 'vision' for excellent dementia care, is based around promoting independence, being inclusive and treating everyone as an individual.
Dovehaven have a robust induction and ongoing training for all team members to ensure that they have all of the skills and knowledge they need to provide expert dementia care, with confidence. Of course, our Home Manager and our Deputy Manager are always on hand to give support and advice to team members and family members alike.
Each member of our care team possesses the necessary skills and qualities to ensure that the delivery of care for those living with dementia, is compassionate and appropriate for them.
The team at Brooklands are dedicated to ensuring that the home is a kind and safe place for residents to live, all of the residents needs are met and they feel a valued member of the Brooklands 'family'.
With our dining tables always beautifully set for mealtimes in both of our dining rooms, our residents enjoy the best of dining experiences making them feel very much ‘at home’ in the friendliest of atmospheres. All of our mealtimes feel like happy, ’family’, sociable occasions.
The daily menu includes old favourites like pies, roasts and sticky toffee pudding and is packed with quality, seasonal and nutritious ingredients. Created by chefs, with the reassurance that dietitians oversee the menu preparation, we guarantee our meals are as nourishing as they are appealing and delicious. Our menu is varied, tempting and reflects residents preferences. We pride ourselves on ensuring that our menu choices are available, in the most appropriately palatable way, for all needs. Our meal choices are sure to tempt even the smallest appetite, so that we can be sure nutritional needs can be met for every resident.
We also enjoy hosting various food related events throughout the year. There is no doubt that the fun of a themed event which is reflected in the menu of the day, gives our residents the opportunity to eat some very enjoyable traditional meals but also try something a little different.
Of course, there is a choice of refreshments available to residents, at all times. It is as important for our residents to drink enough fluid as well as to eat well. Homemade scones and cakes are available daily from the kitchen and residents very much enjoy having afternoon tea!
In addition to mealtimes, drinks, fruit, snacks and suppers are freely available for all to enjoy.

What people say
My dad was admitted to Brooklands in July 2020 with Alzheimer’s. He was treated with dignity and respect and had a fabulous time, painting, dancing and doing other activities on a daily basis. The staff couldn’t have looked after him better and he was always clean, tidy and well turned out. We couldn’t have been happier with the care he received. He was part of their family too.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Brooklands to anyone.
I would recommend Brooklands to families looking for excellent care for their loved ones where everyone goes above and beyond even during these unprecedented times.
This care home is excellent and the staff here always go the extra mile to answer any queries. They have a friendly cheerful attitude whenever you see them.
I struggle to put into words how pleased and reassured we are that we have found the right home for Dad, the staff and management are an absolute credit to the care home community. They are genuinely lovely people, so caring, attentive and thoughtful and go out of their way to ensure they do everything possible to make all their residents’ stay a very happy, safe and extremely comfortable one.
I cannot thank the staff and the manager enough for everything they do for my wife. She always looks well looked after and cared for.
