Welcome to Dean Wood Manor
Dean Wood Manor is a home set in the most beautiful grounds and is a grade 2 listed building. Able to care for 50 residents, this experienced and caring team of nurses and carers have a big heart for nursing people living with dementia and other mental health conditions.
Our home has open corridors giving residents room to walk and stretch their legs, as well as open lounges with comfortable seating, activity spaces and dining rooms. We very much encourage our residents, with their families, to personalise bedrooms with their own special items, to make them feel 'just like home'. Our bedrooms, although not ensuite, are well decorated and fully fitted with bedroom furniture.
Our safe courtyard garden was designed with our residents in mind. Safe and secure, it offers a very pleasant place to sit or socialise.
Friends and family are welcome to visit at any time, with a specially constructed 'visitor pod', we are able to facilitate safe family visiting, whatever the current guidelines may be.
The respite care we provide is ideal for those looking for extra care and support in a relaxing and homely environment - whether its following a recent illness, or to have a 'holiday stay' while a carer has a break. If you are considering a respite stay for someone you care for, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Everything we do is driven by the genuinely caring person centred approach we take towards the specialist nursing care of our 'family' of residents.
Our approach to nursing care is based on the use of personalised care plans. Working together with those that know the resident best, we want to learn as much as we can about every person, in addition to their healthcare and medical needs. Knowing them as individuals and their life history, helps to build essential trusting and caring bonds with every resident we care for, playing a big part in helping residents feel safe, comfortable, relaxed and 'at home'.
Understanding that care requirements will change, we are mindful to ensure those changing needs are identified. Our nurses work very closely with other external healthcare professionals so that the broadest range of expertise is on hand, if required.
The health, well-being and happiness of our residents, is always our number one priority. Care can be provided on a one to one basis for those who require that extra personal support. The team members who deliver such care become to understand that residents needs and wishes very well.
Those who live with us are encouraged to take part in various daily activities. Our activity coordinator is dedicated to ensuring that activities engage people's attention and interest. Being engaged in meaningful activities ensures residents feel comfortable, safe and 'at home' enough to be able to relax and have fun and enjoy the company of others, as friends.
Following activity themes and incorporating seasonal celebrations and special events, all Dovehaven care homes use 'Oomph! On Demand' to support resident exercise, hobbies, themed days and personal interests.
It takes a special team to deliver specialist dementia nursing care. Sometimes challenging but always rewarding, the team at Dean Wood Manor, led by Jane Davies the Home Manager, see our residents as the individuals they are.
All staff are trained in dementia awareness and person-centred care and the team has a growing reputation for the excellence of care delivered in the home. This experienced and caring team of nurses and carers have a big heart for nursing people living with dementia and other mental health conditions.
Dovehaven have robust induction and ongoing training for all team members to ensure that they have all of the skills and knowledge they need to provide expert dementia care, with confidence. Of course, our Home Manager and our Deputy Manager are always on hand to give support and advice to team members and family members alike.
Our activity coordinator is especially skilled at ensuring our residents days are filled with creative and active sociable opportunities. Dominoes has become a competitive sport at this home and the garden is very well used, when the weather allows.
Always with a focus on our residents needs, we ensure that mealtimes can be enjoyed either in the dining room, lounge, a bedroom or ‘on the move’. Our dining room is always set for mealtimes and enjoys a family, friendly, social atmosphere.
We pride ourselves on ensuring that our menu choices are available, in the most appropriately palatable way, for all needs. Our meal choices are sure to tempt even the smallest appetite, so that we can be sure nutritional needs can be met for every resident.
The daily menu includes old favourites like pies, roasts and sticky toffee pudding and is packed with quality, seasonal and nutritious ingredients. Created by chefs, with the reassurance that dietitians oversee the menu preparation, we guarantee our meals are as nourishing as they are appealing and delicious. Our menu is varied, tempting and reflects residents preferences
We also enjoy hosting various food related events throughout the year. There is no doubt that the fun of a themed event which is reflected in the menu of the day, gives our residents the opportunity to eat some very enjoyable traditional meals but also try something a little different.
Of course, there is a choice of refreshments available to residents, at all times. It is as important for our residents to drink enough fluid as well as to eat well.
Homemade scones and cakes are available daily from the kitchen and residents very much enjoy having afternoon tea!
In addition to mealtimes, drinks, fruit, snacks and suppers are freely available for all to enjoy.

I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for looking after my mum so well, the last home made her move ASAP as they couldn’t cope with her! She is so settled at Deanwood………..She is happy, comfortable and enjoying her life.
We are more than satisfied and happy that Mum was placed at Dean Wood Manor. Mum is currently in Woodlands Unit. Her principal carer is a role model for the rest of the team and nothing is ever too much trouble, always going above and beyond. The care is second to none, Mum is always well presented, clothed, showered, nails and hair done.
Thank you so much to the team at Dean Wood Manor, especially the Woodlands Unit, for their care, love and support shown to my Grandma. Grandma entered Dean Wood during the Covid pandemic…..However, we were quick to realise that the staff are fantastic, treating our relative like their own, with complete dignity and respect.
I can’t express how much I appreciate the staff at Dean Wood for coming to my aid…..I would recommend Dean Wood to anyone needing a home for people suffering from dementia and or other nursing problems.
