Welcome to The Willows
The Willows Nursing Home is located in Birkdale and specialises in caring for 27 residents requiring full time nursing care. Being a beautifully restored and refurbished Victorian villa is a real bonus for our residents, as we are smaller than most nursing homes, so can assure the highest standards of service and attention.
The Willows is well known by local people, and we are proud to say that we serve our local community. Located close to the sea front, but also close to Birkdale village, residents and their families can find cafes, tea shops, pubs and the historic Lord Street of Southport in very close proximity to the home.
Many of our bedrooms rooms have en-suite facilities, and all have been tastefully decorated to a high standard by our interior designer. However, we very much encourage our residents to personalise their own bedrooms with their own special items, to ensure that it feel 'just like home'.
The home has 3 floors, with a lift and there is parking available for visitors at the front of the building. Our beautiful sunny garden is a real stand out feature of The Willows and ensures that certain ‘home from home’ appeal.
Over the last months we have continued to maintain our residents close contact with their loved ones. Visiting the home was made much easier with the construction of a ‘visitor pod’ within our conservatory, giving easy access and comfort for both visitors and residents.
The health, well-being and happiness of our ‘family’ of residents, is always our number one priority.
Here at The Willows Nursing Home, we are focused on delivering an excellent standard of nursing and person centred care. We understand that every resident is unique with individual nursing care requirements. Our approach to nursing care is based on the use of personalised care plans. Care plans are written with medical and assessment information but, also with the help of our residents and their families. These bespoke care plans ensure we maximise choice, independence and the comfort of our residents
Our nurses although very experienced, work very closely with other external healthcare professionals, to ensure that the broadest range of expertise is available to support all nursing care needs.
The respite care we provide is ideal for those requiring nursing care, following discharge from hospital or who might alternatively receive nursing care in their own home. We are very happy to discuss your requirements for a respite stay, please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your nursing needs.
Residents choose how they wish to spend their days, however, residents are encouraged to have fun and socialise. There are daily, varied and enjoyable activities, making every day different and supporting our residents wellbeing. Our dedicated activity co-ordinator offers one to one time, for those residents who prefer to spend time in their rooms or are unable to join together with others.
Themed days and lunches are very popular with residents and the home always recognises national celebrations and events. All Dovehaven care homes use 'Oomph! On Demand' to support resident exercise, hobbies, themed days and personal interests.
Keeping in contact with family members has been a key part of daily life in the home, of recent months. All manner of digital means have been utilised – Facetime, Skype, Zoom to keep everyone happy and lessen the stresses of being apart.
Our Home Manager, Grace Alcock, leads our team of quailed nurses and well trained staff to care and support our residents in a manner that is both professional and unobtrusive, promoting independence as well as a sense of well-being and security.
The Willows Nursing Home has a dedicated team of carers and nurses. Many have been working at the home for a number of years. We are unique in that we hardly ever require external care support, meaning our residents benefit from continuity of care and can form trusting and warm relationships with staff members. Families and friends are reassured by knowing who our staff are.
Dovehaven have a robust induction and ongoing training for all team members to ensure that they have all of the skills and knowledge they need to provide expert nursing care, with confidence. Of course, our Home Manager and our Deputy Manager are always on hand to give support and advice to team members and family members alike.
Our conservatory offers residents the opportunity to enjoy all of their meals in a bright, spacious and comfortable dining room where fruit, drinks and snacks are freely available, all day, every day.
Our Head Chef ensures all meals are cooked with fresh, locally sourced seasonal ingredients for a menu which is varied, tempting and reflects residents preferences.
At The Willows, we pride ourselves on ensuring that our menu choices are available, in the most appropriate palatable way, for all nursing needs. Our meal choices are sure to tempt even the smallest appetite, to be sure nutritional needs can be met for every resident.
Of course, there is a choice of refreshments available to residents, at all times. It is as important for our residents who require nursing care, to drink enough fluid as well as to eat well.
Dining is a very important part of the daily life in our home and the chef receives many compliments!
