Every family wants the same thing when they're looking for care.
They want to know the person they love will be safe, well cared for and treated with kindness. Somewhere they'll be known as an individual, not just another resident.
That's what Good Care Month is really about.
Every July, the campaign celebrates the people working across social care and recognises the difference they make to people's lives. At Dovehaven, we're proud to be part of that celebration. More importantly, it's a reminder of what our teams do every day across our care homes in the North West.
For more than 40 years, we've been providing residential care, nursing care, dementia care or specialist care for people across Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire and Greater Manchester. Today, more than 1,000 residents call a Dovehaven home their home, and we're incredibly proud of the colleagues who make that possible.
It's easy to say you provide good care. The real difference is in how it feels.
For us, good care starts with getting to know the person behind the care plan. Understanding their routines, their preferences, the things that make them smile and the support they need to live as independently as possible.
Sometimes it's helping someone rediscover a favourite hobby. Sometimes it's recognising that a resident living with dementia needs reassurance rather than answers. Other times, it's simply taking the time to listen.
Those moments don't often make headlines, but they're the moments families remember.
Everything we do is guided by our CARES values: Compassion, Accountability, Respect Diversity, Excellence and Strength in Unity. They're part of everyday life in our homes and shape the way we care for residents, support families and work together as colleagues.
One of the things we're most proud of at Dovehaven is our commitment to continually improving the care we provide.
This year, we celebrated eight colleagues graduating as Care Home Advanced Practitioners (CHAPs). Through advanced clinical and leadership development, they've strengthened the knowledge and expertise within our homes, helping us deliver even better outcomes for residents.
We're also investing in innovation. Our use of PainChek technology helps colleagues identify pain in residents who may struggle to communicate because of dementia. It's another way we're combining compassion with clinical expertise to improve quality of life.
Good care doesn't stand still, and neither do we.
Moving into a care home shouldn't mean giving up the things that bring purpose and enjoyment.
That's why meaningful activities are such an important part of life at Dovehaven.
Through our partnership with NAPA (National Activity Providers Association), our Activities Coordinators create opportunities for residents to stay connected, active and engaged. Whether that's gardening, music, baking, reminiscence sessions or spending time with local community groups, activities are shaped around the people taking part.
It's never about filling time. It's about helping people continue to enjoy life in ways that matter to them.
Good Care Month is the perfect opportunity to recognise the colleagues who make Dovehaven such a special place to live and work.
Over the past year we've had plenty to celebrate, including Church View achieving an Outstanding CQC rating, more homes becoming Veteran Friendly Framework accredited and colleagues being recognised through our annual CARES Awards.
We have also seen sixteen colleagues volunteer as part of our Buddy Programme, helping new team members settle into their roles and feel supported from day one.
These achievements are important, but they're not the reason we celebrate them.
Behind every award, accreditation and qualification are people who care deeply about what they do. That commitment is reflected in the relationships they build with residents and families every day.
Searching for care homes near me can feel overwhelming. Every website promises compassionate care, comfortable surroundings and experienced teams.
The best way to understand whether a care home is right for your family is to visit.
Talk to the people who live there. Meet the colleagues. Spend time looking beyond the décor and ask questions about daily life.
At Dovehaven, we always encourage families to take their time. Choosing a care home is one of the biggest decisions you'll make, and it should never feel rushed.
Whether you're looking for residential care, nursing care, dementia care or specialist care in the North West, we're here to help you understand your options and find the right support for your loved one.
Good Care Month shines a light on a profession that deserves far more recognition than it often receives.
For us, it's also a chance to say thank you.
Thank you to every nurse, carer, Activities Coordinator, housekeeper, chef, maintenance colleague and support team member across Dovehaven. Your compassion, professionalism and dedication help create homes where people feel safe, valued and respected.
We're proud of what you have achieved together, and we're even prouder of the difference you make to residents and families every single day.
If you're looking for care homes in the North West and would like to experience Dovehaven for yourself, we would love to welcome you. Come and visit one of our homes, meet our teams and see what good care really looks like.
Because choosing care isn't just about finding the right home, it's about finding the right people.
