At Manchester House in Southport, exceptional end-of-life care is about so much more than meeting clinical needs. It is about taking the time to understand each person, celebrating what matters to them and creating meaningful moments that bring comfort, dignity and joy.
This philosophy of truly person-centred care has recently been brought to life through the team's support for resident June, who joined the home on 4 June following a fast-track admission.
From the moment June arrived, Home Manager Rachel Preston and the team focused on getting to know the person behind the care plan. Through conversations with June, they discovered the people, places and experiences that have always brought her happiness, and together began creating a bucket list designed around the things that matter most to her.
Rather than simply filling the days, every activity has been carefully chosen to reflect June's personality and lifelong interests.
So far, this has included a sunflower-themed day celebrating her favourite flower, helping to care for the sunflowers growing in the home's garden while learning about their fascinating history. In the coming weeks, the team will also be helping June enjoy a Liverpool-themed celebration, a visit to one of her favourite Italian restaurants, Christmas Day in June and an Elvis-themed afternoon.
The most memorable celebration so far came as June marked her 70th birthday.
Manchester House was transformed for a Disney Princess-themed party, bringing together residents, colleagues and members of the local community to create a day filled with laughter and lasting memories.
Children from Norwood Primary School made handmade birthday cards, crafts and thoughtful gifts especially for June, while local performer Dolly Boo entertained everyone with Disney favourites. KHM Displays generously donated a spectacular chocolate fountain, which June officially opened herself before residents enjoyed pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit and sweet treats together.
Colleagues from across Dovehaven also visited Manchester House to celebrate with June, bringing birthday gifts and a beautiful bouquet of her favourite flowers, sunflowers.

For June, who receives very few visitors, these moments have meant far more than a celebration. They are a reminder that compassionate care extends beyond meeting physical needs, it is about helping every person feel seen, valued and surrounded by kindness.
Rachel Preston, Home Manager at Manchester House, said:
"When someone comes to us for end-of-life care, our role is about so much more than providing excellent clinical care. It's about understanding who that person is, what has shaped their life and what continues to bring them happiness. Every person deserves to feel listened to, respected and cared for as an individual. By taking the time to create experiences that are meaningful to June, we've been able to bring moments of joy not only to her, but to everyone who lives and works here. Seeing the wider community come together has been incredibly special and shows just how much compassion exists around our home."
