The Brunswick care home in Southport, a premium residential home that supports independent living and couples who need daily assistance, held an extra special event for their veterans on Thursday 15th October. The Brunswick's team take pride in the veterans living at their home and are widely committed to ensuring their experiences are understood, respected and celebrated. Through unique home features including a Veterans Wall and a yearly 'Poppy Tree' to acknowledge Remembrance Day, The Brunswick consistently honours the service of their veterans year-round. The event on Thursday 15th was held especially to express The Brunswick's teams' gratitude and to acknowledge how the veterans' values have helped to shape the world we live in today.

Sharing Stories with Special Guests

The team at The Brunswick worked together to plan a remarkable party fit for such incredible, brave men, complete with a delicious spread and champagne. Residents enjoyed a tipple whilst chatting to their families and some extraordinary guests – Air Cadets from Southport Squadron 281.

The Air Cadets provide opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, and citizenship skills through activities related to aviation, adventure training, and the wider RAF.

The veterans were keen to share stories with the young Air Cadets, hear about their training drills and if they are considering a role in the Armed Forces in the future. It was a beautiful time for reminiscence and reflection for the veterans, including Mr Carter who was kind enough to share artwork with the Cadets inspired by his time in the forces, before it was time for the Cadets to present the badges to the veterans.

There wasn't a dry eye in the room as the veterans received their badges and were thanked for their service in the forces by the Cadets.

The event was made special by the support of staff, families and Southport Squadron 281, whose generosity helped create a warm and celebratory atmosphere. The evening commemorated both the history of the residents and the strong sense of community at The Brunswick.

The Brunswick in Southport is just one of our Dovehaven homes across the North West that recognise and support the commitment of our veterans. The home is continuing to work towards receiving their Veteran Friendly Framework accreditation and will soon join nine other Dovehaven homes that have already achieved accreditation.
