Welcome to Birch Abbey

Birch Abbey care home is proud to provide the very best dementia care, Southport has to offer. We are able to care for 60 residents living with memory loss diseases such as dementia, who have residential and nursing care needs.

The home is thoughtfully designed and purpose built, arranged over 4 floors. Well established in the local area, our reputation for excellence brings many new residents from our local southport community and beyond.

Birch Abbey has large communal spaces on the ground floor. Lounges and dedicated dining rooms can be found on each floor of the home. With access to the patio, our bar is well used for social occasions and family visits, the library is a quieter area and the small tv lounge is decorated just as it would be at home.

Aiding in our innovative approach to dementia care in Southport, Birch Abbey is fitted with many recreational spaces such as a cafe, salon and shop. Visiting these spaces is integral to our person centred approach to dementia care.

All bedrooms are large, ensuite and beautifully decorated. We encourage our residents to personalise their own bedrooms, bringing items and belongings, to ensure that their rooms feel just like home.

The gardens are a real feature, hidden away at the back of the home there are large, well maintained gardens which area accessible for all.

The health, well-being and happiness of our residents, is always our number one priority. We provide care which ensures that residents feel as if they are in their own home. Familiar faces and familiar routine are key to this.

Offering both dementia residential and nursing care enables us to care for residents however their health and wellbeing might change.

All of our residents benefit from their own care plan, tailored specifically for them and their needs. Working closely with the resident and those that know them best, we want to learn as much about the individuals as possible. This allows us to build their care around not only their health needs, but their personal preferences, lifestyles and routines. Everything we do with and for a resident, is driven by this person centred approach to care.

Care can be provided on a one to one basis for those who require that extra personal support. The team members who deliver such care become to understand that residents needs and wishes very well.

The respite care we provide is ideal for those looking for extra care and support in a relaxing and homely environment - whether its following a recent illness, or to have a 'holiday stay' while a carer has a break. If you are considering a respite stay for someone you care for, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Our professional and dedicated team share a passion for caring for people living with dementia and ensure their needs are met to the full.

All at Birch Abbey are trained in dementia awareness and person-centred care, with each member of our care team possessing the necessary skills and qualities to ensure that the delivery of care for those living with dementia, is kind and appropriate for the individual.

What people say

I am extremely satisfied with the overall decision I made to place my 90-year-old mother at Birch Abbey.
My number 1 priority was safety and that requisite has exceeded my expectations. The staff are excellent and we have a good relationship with them.

T H (Son of Resident)

My wife has been in Birch Abbey 2 yrs and 3 months. The manager and staff have been excellent.

B P (Husband of Resident)

I am extremely happy with the care my mother receives at Birch Abbey. The caregivers are thoughtful, kind and supportive with my mum and our family. When mum came to Birch Abbey, she didn’t want to be in a care home, so she was angry and argumentative with the staff. Now, mum is happy, calm and loving towards the staff and us. I would like to thank all the staff at Birch Abbey.

Rita J (Daughter of Resident)

Our mum chose well! My first visit was welcoming, warm and sincere. Staff are caring, patient, kind, they tick all the boxes!

S C (Daughter of Resident)

My husband’s social worker wanted me to visit you and my first impression was very good! I was so pleased for him to move there! Everyone has been so kind to our family and I feel at peace that he is being well looked after and he is happy. I know he is! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
