Outstanding Contribution to Care Homes – Jan Hunstone

Regional Manager Jan Hunstone has been recognised for an exceptional career spanning more than 40 years in nursing and social care. Since joining Dovehaven in 1993, Jan has helped lead the organisation’s growth from one home to 23 services across the North West, supporting high standards in residential care, nursing care, dementia care and specialist complex care services.

Known affectionately as “Mother Dovehaven,” Jan is respected for her hands-on leadership, compassion and unwavering support for residents, families and staff.

Jenny Davies, CEO of Dovehaven, said:
“Jan’s contribution to Dovehaven, and to social care more widely, is immeasurable. She has helped shape our organisation with quality, dignity and compassion at the centre of everything she does.”

Inspirational Care Home Worker – Amal Amir

Church View Care Assistant Amal Amir has been shortlisted for the Inspirational Care Home Worker Award in recognition of the kindness, dignity and emotional support she provides to residents every day at the Liverpool care home.

Amal is known for always going above and beyond for residents and families, creating comfort and reassurance during vulnerable moments. Earlier this year, she was also recognised internally after winning Dovehaven’s Compassion in Every Way Award 2025.

Cheryl Vickerstaffe, Home Manager at Church View (recently rated Outstanding by the CQC), said:
“Amal is loved by everyone -residents, families and the whole team. She gives 110% in everything she does and brings warmth, positivity and compassion into the home every single day.”

Complex Care Award – The Coniston Unit, Warrington

The Coniston Unit at Callands Care Home in Warrington has been named a finalist for the Complex Care Award in recognition of its outstanding specialist support for men living with complex mental health, neurological and high-dependency care needs.

The nurse-led complex care unit provides highly personalised care within a safe, therapeutic environment, helping residents build confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing through relationship-led support and meaningful engagement.

The nomination also recognises the team’s commitment to improving quality of life through projects including the transformation of the unit’s garden room into a calming therapeutic space for residents.

Samantha Cooper, Registered Mental Health Nurse and Unit Manager, said:
“We have a fantastic team on Coniston Unit who are committed to ensuring residents live their best possible life.”

Everyone at Dovehaven is incredibly proud of the finalists and the difference they continue to make across care homes in Liverpool, Warrington and the wider North West every day.
